Business Intelligence is niet iets van de hogere sferen. BI hoort bij elk bedrijf. Namelijk het BI niveau van het bedrijf maakt het verschil in concurrentievermogen. Om in te schatten hoe intelligent (hence “slim”) bedrijf is, kunnen de volgende vragen gesteld worden:

  • Hoe goed kent het bedrijf zijn eigen processen en zijn business omgeving?

  • Weet het bedrijf, waar de huidige en potentiële probleemgebieden liggen die het bedrijf 's success kunnen remmen?

  • Hoe snel kan het bedrijf beslissingen nemen en reageren op veranderingen?

  • Hoe actueel is de informatie in de basis van genomen beslissingen?

Traditioneel baseren managers hun beslissingen op de ervaring, instinct en beperkte aantal financiële rapportages.

Snelheid en complexiteit van de moderne wereld stelt nieuwe, hogere, eisen aan de managers en hun kunsten. Ze moeten kunnen actuele inzichten krijgen in bedrijfsprestaties, snel adequaat erop kunnen reageren en effectiviteit van hun corrigerende acties makkelijk kunnen meten.
